Partnership between non-profit and private sectors to achieve quality housing through adaptive reuse
A local non-profit agency had a need for interim housing in LA County that also featured a recuperative care component to best house and care for their clients.
The need from the non-profit was timely and specific therefore an adaptive reuse strategy was required. In adaptive reuse, the current building conditions often can be a challenge to meet the current standards and specific population requirements. Creativity was required to maximize clients served while creating needed programmatic space.
DAECO worked with a private market investor to acquire a 20-unit apartment building with the intension to renovate into a cohesive site.
With ownership, we devised a strategy and created a schematic design to renovate entire site and include critical program components not included in the original structure such as case management offices, dining rooms and enhanced ADA features.
Our serviced based approach included line of sight to exterior areas, providing a secure intake area and community spaces for clients. The result was a turn-key facility that houses 45 clients in an underserved location.
